Looking Great in 2008 Week #9

I lost 1.8, hooray! I am now at 186.8 and at 21 pounds lost! I am almost half way there.

Ive been having some great losses these past weeks so Im glad I am making progress. This week seems to be a bit slower for some reason. I know I shouldnt complain that the scale is moving down, but I definitely was enjoying the big losses.

I am kind of upset today because when I went to go weigh in, the new assistant manager told me I shouldnt be eating a banana or apple every day. That they should be limited.

What?

Now, I know I didnt get fat eating apples and bananas. I got fat because I wasnt eating any of those. So how is eating one or the other hindering my weight loss? I just thought that was rediculous. One thing I am really getting annoyed with is how LAWL gives you a booklet with foods you can eat in them, and then when you eat them, they say to limit certain foods or to not have it. Well then why do you post it as a food you can eat?

It also says in my book that bananas are low on the glycemic index and they tell you to eat these foods. So I said to her, well if bananas are so "bad" for you, then why are they considered low on the GI scale and you should eat them in moderation? She didnt have an answer for that.

Im just kind of angry that I am being told to change my fruit selection. As I said, fruit did not make me fat. I have been eating apples and bananas from day 1 of this diet and while I cant say that I know for a fact my weight loss would have been different if I hadnt been, I cant just eat grapes and strawberries every day. I dont like a ton other fruits and there arent many fruits that are easy to eat when you are taking them to work.

Well I guess this post didnt turn out to be so positive in the ending, but I guess my message is positive: That fruits and vegetables didnt make us fat. We all know what we were eating before and I bet none of us sat down and binged on an apple. I know whats right for me and what I can eat so I can continue to eat this way for the rest of my life.

Congrats on your loss this week that is awesome!! =)

As for the bananas.....how many people do you know who said, "Ya I gained 20 pounds because I ate too much fruit"....uhm not anyone I know hehe. Fruit is good for you and has fiber and vitamins, so eat up!

I think that's ridiculous. Is she just concerned about the sugars in those fruits? I mean, you're supposed to have x amount of fruits/veggies a day, so if you're not stuffing yourself w/bananas all day, what's the big deal?!

There seems to be an epidemic of unhelpful weight loss 'professionals' around these days. You're totally right and you're doing something wonderful for your health. Don't quit!! You're making amazing progress!

Yeah, I'd just ignore her. That's pretty bad. I know that on the scale of goodness in all fruits, bananas are lower because they are more 'starchy' so to speak, but still, no one got fat eating bananas and they're still a nutritional powerhouse so you know what, who cares if they're higher carb than most fruits? I know I don't.

You are doing a SUPER job! What, bingeing on apples???? So silly. Sounds like you are making lots of healthy choices, so good for you! The Abs Diet sounds pretty similar to LAWL, but he pretty much tells you to eat as many apples as you want. I think one banana a day is recommended, too. The potassium in those are great for you. So yeah, what everybody else said. Ignore her! LOL Congrats on losing the 21. That is sooooo cool! Thanks for visiting me, too!

WOW!! You are doing a great job! Bananas are loaded with vitamins. Apples are full of fiber and they keep things happening if you know what I mean! I'd be upset too and I'd keep eating my fruit.

Congrats on the weight loss! And I'd continue to eat bananas and apples if I were you. They're good for you... and like you said... none of us got fat from eating too much fruit! lol

Wow!! That is a great loss! Congrats :)

Limit apples and bananas?? I'm in trouble, I eat at least one of those a day. What fruit do they prefer we eat??

I'm with you. If we all ate more fruits and veggies, we'd be better off. In general, Americans don't ge anywhere near the recommended MINIMUM of five, and the ideal of 9-11.

So, enjoy your apple (that has Quercetin, and anti-inflammatory plus fiber) and banana (which has potassium).

I'd eat papaya and mango and raspberries every day if I could find ripe ones and could afford it. (Dang, those Brazilian papayas and organic raspberries are expensive!)

Congrats on the loss.

I would tell that woman to go eat cake. You should continue to eat apples and bananas if you want them. You are absolutely right – we didn’t get fat eating fruit. I don’t see any problem with eating those fruits unless you are dipping them in a vat of chocolate.

Keep up the good work.

I think it's great that you are standing up for your own common sense. A lot of these plans don't allow a lot of flexibility on the part of the dieter. We all have our own choices to make and that goes as well for after the diet is over too. I am glad that you are seeing clearly. That said, I limit my bananas too. LOL, there are other fruits that allow me a little more freedom in my day, so I tend to stick more with other fruits.
