Graduation Party

Well I spent a lovely summer day (not officially summer but close enough) at a graduation part for my cousin. It was sunny and warm outside, with no humidity which is rare here in Chicago to have them nonexclusive.
I am proud of myself because I think I did really well with food. I showed up and was so happy to see my aunt who was in from Seattle and catching up with her, that I had one bite of cheese from the appetizers and that was it. Later on when it was dinner time, everyone was complaining they filled up so much on appetizers that they were not hungry for the main course. I luckily had plenty of room because I hadn't filled up. They had a wonderful selection of fresh fruit (strawberries and pineapple), so I filled up my plate with mostly fruit and some salad, and ate half a hot dog (the other main course was brats which I do not like). I had a few glasses of wine (mostly to combat a bee sting earlier that happened to be on my breast as the damn thing flew down my shirt), and then a few bites of cake. All in all, not so bad. Sure cake and hot dogs are not the best, but in moderation I feel you can make just about anything work for you.

I got so many compliments as well which was kind of what I needed, being down in the gutters these last few weeks with the scale not moving. My own uncle didnt even recognize me at first, what with the weight loss and my new hair cut. My other uncle said "wheres the other half of you" and then a woman who I had met at one party or another came over to me and said that I looked fabulous and what was my secret? I just said that there is no secret really, just hard work and dedication. I was slightly annoyed by a few comments. My grandma said, oh it must be so hard not eating what you want. I said, no I pretty much eat everything that I want every day. I enjoy every meal that I eat. One of my aunts said to me, what diet are you doing? To which I replied, oh no diet at all, I plan on eating this way for the rest of my life. Then later on we were talking about good restaurants in the area, and she said, but how can you eat out at all those places and still lose weight? Its amazing how shocked people are realizing that you cant be healthy and lose weight and go out to dinner once a week.

My aunts other niece (on her side of the family) was there and have I havent seen her since we were kids and used to play together. It was ironic because she was very thin as a kid while I, not overweight, am built bigger so she was always praised for being such a skinny bean pole. Now, she was quite large and people were talking about her weight gain, while praising me for my weight loss. Funny how that works out!

All in all, it was a lovely day. Hopefully the scale will reward me for my good choices tomorrow and at least I have some motivation to keep on going.

And for all who wanted to see a pic with the new haircut, here you go. This is of me and my aunt from Seattle, who fought breast cancer and is one of the healthiest people I know. Not the best pic of me as my face is sweaty and my hair windblown, but I really hope I can age like her (she is almost 60 if you can believe it).

Gorgeous photo of both of you! Love the new "do"!

Excellent choices at the party. Isn't it wonderful to go to a function like that and have a bit of what you want while maintaining control? Plus, it makes us seem so mysterious to those who don't understand that weight loss doesn't equal lettuce only. :) Way to go, Heather!
