Superbowl Sunday

Yes its superbowl sunday and you know what that means....food! I am going with my boyfriend over to a friend's house to watch the game and eat and drink. It should be an okay time...most of the people who will be there are some of my boyfriend's hockey friends and most of them don't really pay much attention to me...or they never used to when I was fat.

A lot of these guys I actually knew my freshman and sophmore year of college. We used to hang out on a weekly basis. However, once I got fat, the majority of them stopped paying any attention to me. Especially the hockey friends. I would go to my boyfriend's hockey games, and none of them would even speak to me after the game when I would tell them "great game" or something like that. I remember even when I was 155 pounds (which on a 5'9 frame is not fat at all), one of the guys said that I was so fat he couldnt pick me up. Nice, huh?

So it will be interesting to go in there having lost 35 pounds and see how things go. Kind of a social experiment if you will. I would rather be going to my other friend's house, the friends that I have had no matter what and the ones who have been there for me through it all. But Im trying to be a good girlfriend and let my boyfriend hang out with some of his friends that he rarely sees.

In regards to food, Im sure there will be plenty of it and I will admit that I am nervous about this. Last night I did have 2 margaritas at a mexican food place we went to. Not really because I was trying to use food to forget my problems...rather I was trying to use alcohol to numb my brain a bit so I didnt think about the fact that I may not have a job. It did work, but I dont like that I did that. Today I want to eat clean and enjoy myself without having to worry about food. I wish I knew what was going to be there, but I plan on eating well before I go so I wont be starving, and then to just make the best choices. I figure there has to be a veggie platter somewhere there. And the host, Tony, actually was very overweight as a child and has spent his life since then working out on a daily basis and eating very healthy. So I think I can probably count on him to provide something that is ok to eat.

On the off subject of the superbowl, last night at this mexican place I went to with my boyfriend, there was a husband and wife out to dinner with their daughter. The daughter was probably 3 or 4 yrs old. Guess what they got her for dinner? A giant plate of fries. And yes, I dont know why there were fries at a mexican restaurant. But I couldnt help but think...this is why America is so overweight. I can understand a child not wanting to eat anything at that kind of restaurant. But feed them before you go...or after. Or bring something for the kids to eat. But dont plop a plate of fries (and it was a GIANT plate) in front of your child and think that you did your job as a parent, so you can go back to drinking your margarita and pretending that you dont have children.

Well I hope you all fair well with the superbowl!

I am constantly amazed at the rubbish people feed their children! It makes me so mad!

Have a great Superbowl party! I still don't get why this is so much about food...

I remember going out to dinner with my parents when I was that age and all I wanted was a plate of fries. My Dad told me he would get so embarrassed because in his mind he thought that people would think that he couldn't afford to feed me steak or a full meal but as a child it was what I wanted. I think that if they would have let me eat what I wanted more, I may not have turned into a person who use food to celebrate and sooth.

Your boyfriends buddies sound pathetic but I know thats how guys that age are. 155 on a 5'9 frame isn't big at all and it certainly isn't fat. Don't let your self worth be wrapped up in the small minded idiots of the world. You are so much more than the number on your scale.

I was really sorry to catch up about all the work stress you've had. I hope you can take it easy this weekend...

I hate to see things like that in a restaurant, or kids in strollers with loads of chips. In old home movies I am amazed at how often I have ice cream or something in my hands, so I guess it rings a bell.

Good luck with all the snacks. We just had people over, not Super Bowl related - and have loads of stuff I do NOT need to eat, healthy-ish but too much food...

Have fun at your party! I'm sure you'll do fine...and if you don't, tomorrow's a new day. :)

To even out the 'plate of fries' story, I'll offer a memory of a family at the Navy Pier McDonald's last summer. One of the kids (around 4 or so, I think) asked if he could get a happy meal, and his Dad said he could if he'd share the fries with the rest of them. Imagine that, in this day and time, a family of four sharing a small order of fries. Plus, I could sense that the McD's visit was a treat, and not a twice-weekly occurence.

I am so sorry to hear about the work stress you have had recently, sometimes jobs really suck :( I am having some issues at my job to where I am going to have to look for another job and it sucks cause I love what I do now , but I guess this is life.

That is so sick that parents would feed thier children just a plate of fries, no wonder we have children who have weight issues today.

You will do great at the Super Bowl party, sounds like your prepared with eating beforehand and then just making wise choices at the party...Good Luck :) Have a wonderful Super Bowl Sunday!!

hi lady. i'm sorry to hear that you've had such a crappy week. i hope that this week is better for you. I always appreciate the comments and support you give me :)

I did a "social experiement" once in college... usually you'd find me in jeans and a baggy sweatshirt and a messy ponytail, no make up. one day i wore a skirt, put a flower in my hair, put on some makeup and some body spray and the boy i shared the elevator with talked to me, and everyone was a bit nicer and paid more attention.

it's stupid. but it feels good to be noticed.
