Healthy You Challenge Week 1

As the first post for the Healthy You Challenge, Scale Junkie asked us to write about ourselves. While I am sure most readers of my blog know who I am, I think this challenge is going to be an excellent way for me to meet other bloggers out there who may not know who I am and my story.

So quickly, I started this blog as a place to go to write about my weight loss journey. This has turned out to be one of the best ideas I have had in a long time! I have found so many people fighting for the same things I am, and more support than I could have ever imagined.

In the past I had failed at many diets, but last August I joined LA Weight Loss. LA Weight Loss has since closed and now I am on my own. However I plan on sticking to the plan that I know and continue my weight loss. The plan that I follow is based on the food pyramid, not points or calories. I eat 2 serv of protein, 2 serv of starches, 3 serv of fruits, 3 serv of vegetables, 1 serv of fat, 1 serv of dairy, 3 condiments, and at least 8 glasses of water a day. I am more than half way to my goal and I truly believe this will be the first year that I can say that I will meet my goal. I know that I can do it.

Specifically for this challenge, I want to take this time to focus more on my exercise. I have a pretty good handle on the healthy eating aspect but I havent really challenged myself with exercise. Winter is also a hard month as much of the exercise I enjoy usually takes place outside, like walking and bike riding and Chicago is not the place to do either in the winter. I am going to start small and just challenge myself to 30 min one day a week, of exercise. This may sound small, but its more than I am doing now!

I am mostly excited for this challenge to be able to meet others and offer support. I know that is what has gotten me through some hard times and while I know sometimes we dont want to post about the binge we just had or the food we ate that we shouldnt have, but thats what this is for. And to be able to ask for help and support and then receive it is the most amazing thing of all and I want to be able to take part in that.

So if you haven't signed up, but want to, go here.

I think its great you are going to focus on exercise, it is so important and I'm going to be increasing mine as the months go by!

I really need to focus more on exercise, too. A few months ago I had been walking outside anywhere from 30-60 minutes a day. I loved it! But then I totally fell off the wagon, gained weight, and the last time I walked... I felt like I was going to die. lol

I'm going to start slow and do some exercise DVDs for starters. Then when I feel more fit, and have lost some weight, I'm going to resume the outside walking. I'm looking forward to it!

I have to admit--I thought of you recently when I saw that LA Weight Loss was closing...but I'm glad that you're forging ahead and staying on track.

With your mindset and your determination, I have no doubt you'll be incredibly successful.

To 2008!

Wow you look great and you are over half-way to your goal.

One of my long-time blogging buddies went to LA Weightloss in 2007 and lost 55 pounds and is very inspirational with her new found love of running. She blogs at:

I too am on the Healthy You Challenge and looking forward to getting to know everyone over the next few weeks.
